Ban Chiang Period, 15th-9th century BC. A ceramic storage jar with tall basal ring, biconvex body and flared neck; sgraffito bands with reserved text, notched collar to the equator. 2.4 kg, 26cm (10 1/4"). Property of a Cambridgeshire lady; formerly in the Igor Karmiloff collection (1925-2016), UN economist and author of Flashbacks, Icons of Impermanence, Bloomington, 2009; acquired in the 1950s-early 1990s; accompanied by a copy of an invoice from Galerie Koller, Zurich, Switzerland, dated 16 August 1981 and an old photograph dated 1982.
