2nd-4th century AD. A carved schist statue of a female dancer standing in an arch with foliage above on a lotus-flower pedestal, her legs crossed and right hand on her hip, left hand gripping the foliage above; the body clothed in a draped close-fitting garment with swags to the hips draped from the shoulders; mounted on a custom-made stand. See Jongeward, D. Buddhist Art of Gandhara in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2018, item 49. 87 kg, 120 x 37cm (47 1/4 x 14 1/2"). From a North West London collection; previously acquired in the 1980s.
