2nd-4th century AD. A carved schist frieze fragment with nimbate Buddha standing with right hand raised flanked by attendants and kneeling worshippers, devas and other figures above; mounted on a custom-made stand. Cf. Jongeward, D. Buddhist Art of Gandhara in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 2018, item 42 for type. 17 kg total, 46.5cm with stand (18 1/4"). Property of a North London gentleman; ex private London collection, acquired 1980-1990s.
