Description:
1st millennium BC. A carved serpentine amuletic plaque with suspension rings (one absent); high-relief scene with facing figure with horns, ears, beard and legs of a goat wearing an open-fronted coat and clutching a spear, accompanied by a standing bearded figure in similar garment holding a curved knife and a (sacrificial?) goat. 22.5 grams, 47mm (1 3/4"). Property of a Bristol collector; formerly part of his father's collection formed between 1960-late 1970s.
